GAHANNA, Ohio (WCMH) – A historic family-owned bakery has pushed back the opening of its new Gahanna location.
Resch’s Bakery is working toward opening its second location at 150 N. Hamilton Road, which formerly housed a Dollar General. While the business first announced an anticipated spring opening, the bakery confirmed to NBC4 it is now planning to open in the summer. Resch’s has not yet revealed an exact opening date.
The shop’s other location sits at 4061 E. Livingston Ave. in Columbus, where it continues to operate as usual. The Gahanna location will become the bakery’s main production space, according to owner Frank Resch. A February post to the business’ website calls the Gahanna building “significantly larger” than the Livingston Avenue bakery.
“The expanded production facility will also allow Resch’s to increase their output and potentially introduce new items to their menu,” the post says.
Besides potentially adding more menu items, the Gahanna store will feature the same offerings as the Livingston Avenue bakery. Resch’s serves donuts, pastries, cakes, cookies, pretzels, pies, bagels and more.
The bakery’s founder Wilhelm Resch immigrated to America from the German town of Neiderwinden in 1906. He and his uncle built the first Resch’s Bakery building in 1912 at 1029 E. Livingston Ave. The bakery moved to its current spot in 1962 and is in its sixth generation of family ownership.
