HILLIARD, Ohio (WCMH) – One person is dead after a Friday morning fire in the northern section of Hilliard.
According to the Norwich Township Fire Department, crews were called to the 5100 block of Vinings Boulevard, at the The Vinings Condominiums complex, where they discovered heavy smoke emitting from a home. One victim was located from inside the home, removed, and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The victim reportedly died at the hospital a short time later. No other injuries were reported and damage from the fire, according to photos from the NTFD and an NBC4 reporter, appears to be concentrated to the interior of the home.
A Battalion Chief at the scene said the fire was limited to one unit, but that there was smoke damage to another neighboring unit in the complex. At around 11 a.m., crews returned to the condo because a hot spot was found inside the unit.
The fire department said the unit did not have working smoke detectors.
NBC4 will have more details as the investigation remains ongoing.
