LOGAN, Ohio (WCMH) — A Hocking County man was taken into custody Sunday night after a standoff with law enforcement, during which he shot a sheriff’s deputy and a K-9.

Area law enforcement — including the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office and Logan police — responded to a domestic dispute on Bremen Road near State Route 93 just before 9 p.m.

When they arrived, they saw 44-year-old Steven Hardbarger with a gun. Hardbarger began firing at the officers, according to a joint-office news release, allegedly shot deputy Jason Miles in the hip and then continued to fire. One of the rounds fired by Hardbarger hit a K-9, Rambo, who was inside a cruiser, the news release said.

In all, Hardbarger fired more than 150 rounds, according to law enforcement. A number of cruisers were left with bullet holes.

Eventually, officers were able to take Hardbarger into custody, where he was transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Miles suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Rambo had to be life-flighted to Columbus, but as of Monday was likely to survive.

“Rambo has been treated and released and is back at home with his partner,” Logan police said.

A judge denied Hardbarger bond Monday, and he is next scheduled to be in court Wednesday. He is facing three charges of felonious assault and one kidnapping charge.
