The Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified an Athens County man killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

Investigators say Dirk Allen Malone, 26, was driving a Lexus IS250 north on Bates Road when he lost control of the car for unknown reasons. The car slid off the left side of the road where it struck a tree, a fence and a house before coming to a rest. Malone was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSP says Malone was wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident, and troopers suspect that unsafe speed contributed to Malone losing control of the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
