Licking County man dead after deputies respond to domestic incident

ALEXANDRIA, Ohio (WCMH) – A Licking County man is dead after deputies were involved in a shooting while responding to a domestic incident Friday morning.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation said law enforcement shot a man while responding to reports of a brother trying to stab his sister in the 4000 block of Northridge Road, north of Alexandria near St. Albans golf course.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office said multiple callers indicated that a man was attempting to stab and kill a woman. Deputies arrived around 9:30 a.m. to find a home was set on fire and they entered the home to encounter the man, Sheriff Randy Thorp said. The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet released the identities of those involved but did confirm they were both adults. Thorp said the sister suffered cuts to her hand and is otherwise OK.

Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp said one of his deputies and a Johnstown Police Officer were involved. He said they are still reviewing body camera footage to figure out exactly what happened, and that the deputy and officer involved have been placed on administrative leave, per common procedure.

“When you’re responding, you always have to be aware and wary of the fact that you have no idea what you’re going to get into,” Thorp said. “So we take each and every one of these calls very serious because they can escalate into a situation like we had today.”

Investigators have not yet released the suspect’s name as the Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to process the active scene.
