LONDON, Ohio (WCMH) – A Madison County traffic stop turned into a drug bust Friday when $1.75 million worth of cocaine was discovered in the back of a truck.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers pulled over a woman driving a rented box truck on eastbound Interstate 70. Troopers said the stop was due to an unsafe lane change, not using headlights and following a vehicle too closely while driving in the rain.
Troopers said the driver, 27-year-old Andrea Celaya, of Tuscon, Arizona, exhibited a “high level of nervous behavior” and offered an “unusual” travel story. They also said they observed possible criminal material in the truck.
A drug-sniffing canine signaled an alert on the vehicle, and during a search, troopers seized 110 pounds of cocaine, wrapped in 50 individual packages, in the rear compartment. The total estimated value of the cocaine is approximately $1.75 million.
Celaya is being held at Franklin County Jail and charged with trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs, both first-degree felonies. She could face up to 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted.
