LONDON, Ohio (WCMH) — Approximately 100 slot machines were seized after the Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigated two businesses suspected of illegal gambling.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said it partnered with the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), and two businesses were searched Wednesday as part of an illegal gambling investigation.
A media release from the sheriff’s office states the investigation began after they received multiple tips from the community about a business inviting patrons to play slot machines and gamble. Four out of the five businesses investigated were in Ohio, and the fifth was operating out of Tennessee.
Two businesses operated out of Madison County, while the other two Ohio locations were in Champaign and Clark counties. According to the release, multiple agencies assisted in an operation that resulted in approximately 100 suspected illegal slot machines being seized.
“Illegal casinos operate outside of the law and will not be tolerated in our communities,” said Madison County Sheriff John R. Swaney. “We were able to execute five search warrants simultaneously in four different venues and in Tennessee. So, we were able to make two arrests out of it. All the machines were confiscated, and we’re taking them to evidence here in Madison County.”
Sheriff Swaney said thousands of dollars in cash and other documents were also found during the investigation.
