Columbus is celebrating National Margarita Day.
In its classic form a margarita contains tequila, lime juice, and Triple Sec and is served in a glass with a salted rim.
The origin of the drink is contested— with many stories about who came up with the classic cocktail, but one thing on which everyone agrees: “It’s all about the tequila obviously,” said Chris Mendoza, director of culture at Condado Tacos.
“To make a really great margarita you also want to use fresh juices. I like lime juice, a little bit of orange juice to kind of round it out. We always use some type of triple sec— a nice, sweet orange liqueur, and those are the really great foundations for a great margarita,” Mendoza added.
You mix that all together, pour over ice, and shake or stir.
“We have a really great lively atmosphere [at Condado Tacos]. We’re a really hospitality driven service team, and we engage you in the experience as much as possible. We try to riff with you. Try to bring you out of your comfort zone and make you feel comfortable about being in our restaurant,” Mendoza said.
