COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Double Your Donations was a huge success thanks to local donations and those matching funds from local sponsors.

Jill Jess with Mid-Ohio Foodbank said the single-day drive netted $1.75 million for families in need.

That money is enough to provide seven million meals for their pantry’s clients.

“The generosity of the people who called or went on line or texted or came to the Foodbank to donate, it is just overwhelming,” said Jess, Spokesperson for the Foodbank.

She cautioned even during a robust economy hunger still stalks our state.

“One in six Ohioans is still at risk for food insecurity,” Jess said. “Many of the people we do serve, struggle to make ends meet,” she said.

Many Ohioans are just one medical bill or broken-down vehicle away from needing help.

“Clearly folks cared in this fund raiser and reached out and we are so grateful” Jess said.

Families with sufficient income may take fresh food options for granted.

“Obviously shelf-stable food is a part of what we do, but half of the food we distribute is fresh food,” she said.

Jess says this fund drive was neighbor helping neighbor.

“Nobody want to see our neighbors go hungry and the fact that they reached out at a time when everybody’s wallets are being pulled in lots of directions for their own families, but they were generous to help other families in our community we are just so grateful.”

Mid-Ohio Foodbank provides food for 20 counties.
