COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — It’s that time of year Ohio State fans have been waiting for, football season.
Just one more day until Ohio State kicks off against Akron, and Buckeye fans like Ronald White are excited.
“Go Bucks! Number one team in the nation so I’m very, very excited,” White said.
Ask any Ohio State fan and they’ll share the same sentiment as White.
“I’m born and raised here in Columbus, Ohio so this is the mecca,” said Ohio State fan, Greg Winbush. “Here at Ohio State, the people live in Ohio. Everybody’s a Buckeye.”
Fans have their scarlet and gray ready to go, eager to cheer on the Buckeyes. Tom Skladany is one of Woody Hayes’ former players. He said he remembers the hype around that first home game of the season.
“When I first came out my freshman year, there was like 89, 90,000 people,” Skladany said.
Skladany said he’s confident in the team, already predicting tomorrow’s outcome against Akron.
“Tomorrow it’s going to be like 63 to 10,” Skladany said. “I always feel bad for a team like this we’re playing, but they’re on the schedule. I just hope Coach Day pulls our guys early so he doesn’t run up the score worse than that.”
Fans are just excited to see the team back in action. Ohio State Junior, Luke Corcoran, said he’s looking forward to showing off his school pride.
“Pumped up, I mean, first game. You’ve got to love OSU football,” Corcoran said. “I’ve got season tickets so I’m ready.”
For transfer student, Kofi Bobie, it’s his first time getting to experience game day as a Buckeye.
“All my boys got tickets, they’re ready to show out,” Bobie said. “We’re ready to wake up mad early in the morning and start getting ready for the game.”
The Buckeyes are set to kick off against Akron at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Ohio Stadium. Parking lots open at 5 a.m. and gates to the stadium are set to open at 1:30 p.m.
