COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say a man walking on a sidewalk was killed when he was struck by a car in northeast Columbus.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 10:13 p.m., Thursday, a 31-year-old man was driving a 2014 Chrysler 300 eastbound on E. 5^th Avenue, near Bassett Avenue, when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drove onto the sidewalk.  

The vehicle then struck Michael Womack, 47, of Columbus, who was walking on the sidewalk, before hitting a utility pole.  

Womack was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The driver of the Chrysler was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. 

Police continue to investigate the crash.
