Pataskala Elementary will be closed on Monday after a partial ceiling collapse in a classroom.

Officials with the Southwest Licking School District say that part of a ceiling collapsed toward the end of the school day on Friday. No students were injured and they were in a different part of the classroom when the collapse happened.

District officials say the building will be closed on Monday, May 21 to ensure the ceiling has been inspected and that it is safe for students and staff to return. The closure only affects second- and third-grade students who attend Pataskala Elementary

According to a statement from the school district, the cause of the collapse is unknown at this time. Architects from Garmann-Miller will be assessing the structure.
