PICKERINGTON, Ohio (WCMH) – A fugitive on the Ecuador’s most wanted list was arrested Wednesday in Pickerington.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team tracked down and arrested Luis Naula-Candelario Wednesday morning in the 100 block of Heft Court just west of Downtown, Pickerington.

Naula-Candelario, 29, was wanted for allegedly killing Brenda Alexandra Garcia Puya in Ecuador in April 2019. He was on the country’s most wanted list of violent fugitives. U.S. Marshals deputies and ICE officers initiated a joint investigation after receiving information that he was likely living in central Ohio.

Authorities engaged in a brief standoff with Naula-Candelario, but he was soon apprehended safely. He remains in ICE custody pending extradition back to Ecuador.
