WORTHINGTON, OH (WCMH)– Worthington Police are investigating after a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning.

Police and medics were called to Monkey’s Bar and Grill, located at 6116 Huntley Road, just before 1:30am.

Police confirm two men, 36-year-old Rayland Sullivan and 28-year-old Brian Farris, have died following the shooting. One victim was found in the parking lot, and the other was found in the front door of the bar.

According to officials on scene, these are the first two homicides in Worthington in 22 years. Worthington Police Sergeant Stephen Matte says investigators do not know where the shooting started.

“We know that both of the decedents were in the parking lot and in the patio area of the bar we don’t know exactly where the shooting started at but it did end outside,” said Matte.

“This is a very safe community,” he said. “It’s very rare that we have this kind of instances. The last time we had another shooting where someone died was back in 2010. Our officers train regularly, responded appropriately, and were able to control the situation as best they could when they arrived there on scene. It is a tragedy, no questions asked. We don’t expect this kind of thing to happen in Worthington. We work very hard to prevent it as best we can.”

Police say a third male was found a short distance away with a gunshot wound to the leg and transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Sergeants say there was some question as to where the shooting actually occurred. Half of the parking lot is in the city of Columbus, and the half where the homicide took place is in Worthington.

An man who works nearby and identified himself as Scott arrived Wednesday to an unfamiliar scene.

“Usually it’s quiet and peaceful, and you definitely don’t come in at 5 o’clock in the morning and expect to see, you know, 10, 15 police cars, you know, bodies on the floor, it was definitely a shock,” Scott said.

A man who identified himself as Gucci Gucc told NBC4 he is a regular at the bar.

“Some friends of mine let me know like tragedy hit and I’m like ‘What, wow! I was just up there.’ It made it look like that could’ve been me.”
