POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) – The Weirich family has been blessed with two beautiful daughters and a faith that runs deep.

It’s their faith that has gotten them through the last five years after their daughter Katelyn was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Together they show everyone what it means to be Strong Like Katelyn.

“It has been an emotional roller coaster for sure these past almost five years. I mean you go from everything’s fine to one day, your world is turned completely upside down,” said Tara Weirich, Katelyn’s mother.  “But people often tell us ‘Wow look at what you guys are going through and I don’t know how you make it through? And where do you find your strength?’ “

That strength comes from their faith and through Katelyn other people are finding their faith too, as Katelyn’s sister Kendall points out knowing that is a blessing to their family

“I think it’s amazing all the people that have found Jesus because of Katelyn, all the people that have reached out to us and doing so many kind things for us,” Kendall Weirich said.

Katelyn herself echoes that, “I think God has done so many good things in our life and I believe that he will do more.”

She admits that some days are harder than others and says on days she is struggling she finds strength in prayer. Even now, facing the news that the cancer has spread the Weirich’s remain hopeful.

“We just have to keep going even though it wasn’t what we asked for. We just have to keep trusting in God and just keep going,” said Katelyn Weirich.

“One of the things that I like to always say is that it’s a perspective change. You cannot let the fear of tomorrow, steal the joy of today,” said Katelyn’s father Jeff Weirich. “It is literally one day at a time. You make the best decisions you can today for tomorrow, but you’re ultimately not promised tomorrow.”
