REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (WCMH) – A Reynoldsburg man charged with a fatal stabbing last September changed his plea and faced a judge Tuesday morning.
Court documents confirm that on Feb. 29 an attorney for Surya Bhujel announced their intent to change his plea of not guilty to guilty for the murder of 36-year-old Buddy Majhi. Charged with murder, aggravated murder and felonious assault, Bhujel pleaded guilty to an amended charge of voluntary manslaughter.
A Licking County Court of Common Pleas judge sentenced Bhujel to serve 11 to 16.5 years in prison.
He was arrested Sept. 25 after police were called to the 9100 block of Firstgate Drive and found Majhi suffering from multiple stab wounds. Majhi was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital but was pronounced dead one hour later.
Police said Bhujel, an acquaintance of Majhi, stabbed Majhi after an argument that began at a neighborhood bar and ended at Bhujel’s residence after receiving a ride home. He was at the scene of the stabbing and called 911 himself before he was taken into custody without incident.
