The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the person killed when a dump truck overturned on Interstate 270 Friday night.
According to investigators, Anthony Allred, 53, of Columbus, was driving a 1997 Mac dump truck loaded with asphalt east on I-270 just west of Interstate 71 around 8:08pm when he lost control of the truck. The truck went off the left side of the highway. Allred steered the truck back onto the road, but it rolled over, coming to rest on its top.
As the truck was rolling over, it struck the side of a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia operated by Dil Gurung, 38, of Columbus. The bed of the dump truck came off the frame of the truck, spilling asphalt across all lanes of I-270.
Investigators say Allred was pronounced dead on the scene by Jackson Township medics. No other injuries reported. The sheriff’s office said there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash but Allred was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The crash remains under investigation.
