The Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the West Jefferson Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night in Madison County.

The checkpoint will operate from 9pm to 1am on U.S. Route 40 near State Route 142.

The state patrol says the checkpoint will be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols in order to combat alcohol-related injuries and fatal crashes. Authorities encourage anyone consuming alcohol to find a designated driver or make other travel arrangements before drinking.

Sobriety checkpoints are legal in Ohio as long as public notice is given that the checkpoint will be established. Even though the location is announced in advance, the checkpoints are often held in conjunction with less-visible types of enforcement nearby.
