For many Ohio State fans, it’s hard to believe that a street bordering campus is actually called Michigan Avenue.
Students who live on the street said they run into a few challenges when Beat Michigan Week rolls around.
OSU Grad Student Summer Prevost whispered she lived on Michigan Avenue when we asked. She said it’s not something you want to admit during rivalry week!
“It’s a hard week to live on Michigan Avenue,” said Prevost.
“Can’t really say it this time of year, but we do live on Michigan,” said roommate Meredith Fennell.
Michigan Avenue, just off campus and home to many Ohio State students, becomes ‘ichigan ’ Avenue during rivalry week. One of the ‘ichigan’ signs sadly didn’t make it this year.
“I thought it would have been gone sooner honestly, but then last week it was like falling down and now it’s gone,” said Fennell.
Prevost, Fennell and roommate Mollie Kowalchik said please don’t judge them for their unfortunate street name!
“I feel like we always kind of hesitate when we like say where we live we were ordering pizza the other day and when we said our address they were like ew why do you live on that street,” said Kowalchik.
The street has long been a sore spot for Ohio State fans. Back in 2007 former Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman renamed Michigan Avenue to Buckeye Way during Beat Michigan Week.
