COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A Columbus school is celebrating its diverse culture and giving students a bilingual lesson.
Every week, Noor Academy teaches students the Somali language and culture.
Many of the kids are from Somali households, but English is their first language. Now, the school is helping them reconnect with their roots — and their families.
Teachers at Noor said the Somali language lessons help foster more family communication at home, and the students are eager to learn.
“So I’ve seen it firsthand how excited they are,” Assistant Director Qudan Mohamed said. “[They’re] thrilled that they can speak both Somali and English.”
Noor Academy said its focus is offering students not just education, but inspiration.
The school opened last year on Leonard Avenue.
