HEATH, Ohio (WCMH) — The frigid temperatures in central Ohio aren’t hard on just humans – they’re also hard on animals.

The Licking County Humane Society is working to make sure people seeking shelter from the cold can also protect their pets.

The shelter donated sleeping bags for people and pets as well as pet coats to the warming center at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newark. The humane society also gave kennels and leases to the county transit authority so pets can safely ride the bus to the warming center with their owners.

Licking County Humane Society said the donations were possible thanks to funding from the J.T. Callendar Program, started in memory of a Licking County resident known for his love of animals.

The warming center, located at 592 West Main Street in Newark, is open now and pets are welcome.
