WORTHINGTON, Ohio (WCMH) – The Worthington Resource Pantry received a donation from what many would consider to be an unlikely source.

After playing the Sonic Temple Art and Music Festival this past weekend, rock legends Metallica teamed up with Carhart to donate $65,000 to the nonprofit organization.

The pantry serves eight zip codes in northern Franklin County. Last month alone, it served 142,000 meals from its current location.

Worthington Resource Pantry Executive Director Nick Linkenhoker said the donation is much needed given recent budget cuts.

“As the funding from state and national resources is fading away, so it’s even more imperative for us to fundraise creatively, and I can’t think of a more creative way than Metallica,” Linkenhoker said.

The donation will stock the shelves when the pantry moves to its new space, which is double the size of its current location, Linkenhoker said.
