MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) – One person is dead after a fatal collision that occurred in Union County over the weekend.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers from the Marysville Post are investigating a crash that occurred Sunday morning on U.S. Route 33 near Marysville. At around 1:25 a.m. a 2024 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle was traveling southeast, as was a 2017 Chevrolet Spark.
The motorcyclist, a 33-year-old man from Marysville, was reportedly attempting to pass in between the Chevrolet and another vehicle that was also heading southeast. The motorcycle struck the Chevrolet from behind, causing the Chevrolet to veer of the right side of the road.
The man was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the highway. He was flown to a Columbus area hospital and his condition is currently unknown.
The Chevrolet overturned several times and crashed into a ditch and the driver, 67-year-old Jonathan Wallace, of Springfield, was taken to a Marysville hospital. Wallace was later transferred to a hospital in Columbus, where he died from his injuries.
The OSHP said both drivers were wearing appropriate safety equipment and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
