WHITEHALL, Ohio (WCMH) – Two men who were arrested in January in connection with a fatal shooting in Whitehall were both found not guilty.

A jury in Franklin County Common Pleas Court found Jyren Lyles, 21, and Christian Byrd, 20, not guilty on all charges on Thursday. Each were indicted on two counts of murder, while Byrd faced a felonious assault charge and Lyles was charged with receiving stolen property, according court records.

According to the Whitehall Division of Police, officers responded to reports of a shooting at 10:07 p.m. in the 4500 block of Ludington Road on Jan. 13. Both men were placed into custody outside of the residence.

Officers found a male victim, identified in court documents as Christopher Byrd, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the incident began as a domestic dispute, which escalated into gunfire.
