WORTHINGTON, Ohio (WCMH) – A manager at a Worthington Five Guys restaurant thwarted an alleged theft when she wrestled money out of the suspect’s hands earlier this week.

According to court documents, a man approached the Five Guys restaurant on North High Street in Worthington at 8:41 a.m. Wednesday, before the business was set to open. The man, 30-year-old Kylian Mandela, allegedly entered the restaurant and reportedly placed a used cigarette on the counter.

Mandela allegedly walked over to the cash register, which was next to a large mason jar labeled “tips”. A criminal complaint said that Mandela allegedly reached into the jar and removed a $5 bill.

The report said the Five Guys manager told Mandela the store was closed and to put the money back. Mandela reportedly replied that he had put the money in the tip jar and was taking it out.

Mandela then left the building, but the manager chased after him and a scuffle ensued, police said. Mandela dropped the cash and fled the scene while yelling at the manager, threatening to kill her.

Worthington officers located Mandela about one mile south while walking through the woods off of High Street. He was arrested and booked into Franklin County Jail.

On Friday, Mandela, charged with robbery, was issued a $50,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 6.

Mandela is also facing charges for domestic violence and assault stemming from an incident earlier this month and previously pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft from an incident in November 2024.
