COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – We may be hearing the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage very soon.

Here in Columbus, we’re told the Franklin County marriage license office is ready for whatever decision is handed down.

Locally, as well, several same-sex couples are hopeful this ruling will go in their favor–they are already making plans to marry here in Ohio.

Raisa Mathis and Michelle Fritz say they want to tie the knot if they are able.

“People are ready,” Mathis said. “Ohio is ready, so hopefully the Supreme Court can recognize that Ohio is ready to go.

Their wedding, if it goes forward, will be earlier than originally thought.

“The plan was to be married in June of 2016, but then all this started happening and we were like ‘we should move it up,” she said.

Fritz also said she is excited at the prospect of getting married.

“I would just love to take this lady’s last name and just be in love like everybody else,” she said.

If the decision comes down Friday or Monday, we are told several same-sex couples will gather at the courthouse.

One judge tells us extra staff will be inside the marriage license office to keep a possible line flowing.

“I believe we’re standing pretty firmly on being prepared for whatever happens,” said Franklin County Probate Judge Rob Montgomery.
