COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Four-year-old Trevor Smith was invited to Kokosing Construction’s work site near Polaris to fulfill his dream of riding in construction trucks and seeing how the equipment works. From there he went on to a Dublin job site maintained by Ruscilli Construction for lunch with a construction team.
Trevor and his family drove down from Jeromesville in Ashland County to meet with members of the Make-A-Wish foundation, on the date of the 36th anniversary of the wish that inspired the formation of the international organization.
Trevor was diagnosed with brain cancer, and has been in remission for six months. His father, Nick Smith, said Trevor “still has some strength issues” but is otherwise doing very well. Nick works for a construction company in Mansfield and farms, and that he and Trevor have bonded over construction projects, including building a deck.
Trevor made an unforgettable impression on Columbus Division of Police officers and personnel, who provided an escort onto the site. and the Kokosing employees who showed Trevor the ropes operating a bulldozer and loader.
Doug Kelly, president of Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, said that three-quarters of the participating families feel “that wish is the turning point in a kid’s illness.”
Kelly said that each year the organization makes about 450 wishes of children in Ohio with life-threatening illnesses come true.What others are clicking on:
