COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A man crushed by granite slabs in far west Columbus has died, according to police.
According to Columbus firefighters, they were called to International Street near Roberts Road at about 10:59am, today, on the report of a person injured.
Firefighters say when they arrived on scene, a man had been freed by workers from underneath six slabs of granite.
The man, identified as Robert Schofield, 55, was taken to Mount Carmel West in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say the victim was an employee of Unique Stone Concepts and that he was working in the rear of the property when he became trapped between several granite slabs.
