COLUMBUS (WCMH)- Columbus firefighters say a man has died following a working fire on the east side of town.According to the Columbus Fire Department, at about 1:45am, firefighters were called to the 100 block of S. Weyant Avenue on the report of a house fire. During a search of the home, firefighters found Michael W. Gwinn Sr., 54, inside the residence. Gwinn would be transported to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he would be pronounced dead.According to firefighters, it appears Gwinn awoke to heavy smoke and attempted to escape but was overcome and collapsed where he was found by firefighters.Firefighters say there were no smoke detectors in the home, and they continue to investigate the cause.
