HAMILTON, OH (AP/WCMH) – Police fatally shot a robbery suspect who was holding a pharmacist at gunpoint in southwest Ohio.

Hamilton police say the shooting occurred after officers responded to a “suspicious call” early Monday for a 24-hour drugstore and found an armed robbery in progress. Police say the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. at a Walgreens store in Hamilton, about 30 miles north of Cincinnati.

Accordign to WLWT, customers saw a man jump over the counter of the pharmacy. That customer called 911.

When police arrived, they say they found the robber holding a knife to a pharmacist’s throat.

When the man didn’t drop the knife, an officer shot and killed the man.

WLWT reported that the pharmacist was shook up, but otherwise okay.
