COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Dalon Smoot was indicted by a Franklin County Grand Jury on charges he shot and killed former Ohio State University cheerleader Gearld Lee Bishop II.
According to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien, Smoot, 21, shot Bishop, 31, during a robbery on Larry Place, in east Columbus on June 11. Bishop was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bishop was a cheerleader at OSU during his college years and was presently a coach at a cheer gym called Midwest Magic Allstars Cheer and Dance, according to O’Brien.

O’Brien said Smoot had just been released from prison, 25 days before the deadly shooting, from a five year aggravated robbery sentence.
It was the second fatal shooting on Larry Place in three days.
Smoot has been charged on Repeat Violent Offender specifications that include aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence and weapon under disability charges.

“Smoot faces a potential sentence of life without parole for the Aggravated Murder counts,” O’Brien stated.
