COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A shooting in the parking lot of an east Columbus restaurant has left one man dead.

According to Columbus Police, officers were called the Waffle House in the 1400 block of N. Cassady Avenue on the report of a shooting in the parking lot shortly before 3am.

When officers arrived on scene they found Corey La-Paul Brown, 29, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics pronounced Brown dead at the scene.

Brown’s vehicle was found at one of the pumps of a Turkey Hill gas station next door.  Detectives believe Brown may have been involved in an argument at a nearby bar prior to the shooting.

Witnesses told police a gold colored 4-door vehicle may have been involved in the incident. The vehicle was seen leaving the parking lot before police arrived.

Friends and relatives say Brown was a father of three young children. 

Detectives are collecting images from surveillance cameras at the businesses around the scene of the crime.
