Marysville Honda plant evacuated due to written threat

MARYSVILLE, OH (WCMH) — Bomb sniffing dogs with the Columbus Fire Department were sent to Honda’s plant in Marysville after a written threat was made to the 4,000,000 square foot facility.

Police say a note claimed the plant would “blow up today.”

Officials spent several hours searching the building, but they tell NBC4 no suspicious devices were discovered.

“You can just imagine that search took quite a while. It was was a pretty extensive search by that was done by the experts in that field,” said Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton.

Patton says his deputies are now working to find the person who made the threat.

Honda released the following statement late this afternoon about the evacuation:

Earlier today, Honda security learned of a potential threat to associate safety at our Marysville Auto Plant.  As a precaution, we made the decision to evacuate and dismiss associates beginning at 11:30 am.

The safety and security of all associates is a top priority so Honda moved quickly to assure safety.

Honda has notified law enforcement officials and they are on-site and investigating.

At this time no additional information can be shared.
