AUSTIN (KXAN) – As flooding worsens near the Texas-Louisiana border, Interstate 10 has shut down.

The Texas Department of Transportation says excessive rain has resulted in the two states closing the Interstate. The Sabine River is the border in between the two states.

The closure will significantly impact east-west traffic in the area of Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana.

Drone footage from the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana shows roads completely under water.

In the Deweyville-area, emergency crews have conducted 128 rescues and 276 evacuations. Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster in nearly 20 counties hit by severe rain and flooding.

In Starks, Louiosiana, KPLC-TV reports the flood waters are causing caskets to pop out of the graves.

Authorities say they are doing what they can to stop the caskets from coming up.

Any caskets that are recovered are held by the coroner’s office until the flooding subsides. They warn people not to try to undertake recoveries themselves. “Do not go to the cemeteries. These vaults weigh 1,600 to 1,800 pounds; caskets are full of water and if they are full of water, we know how to handle that and take care of it. We have lots of experience,  unfortunately with Katrina, Rita and Ike, in recovering caskets and it’s just not good for family members to be out in the cemetery,” coroner’s investigator Zeb Johnson, told KPLC.
