Young gardeners get their hands dirty at Mid-Ohio Farm at NBC4

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Some budding gardeners got their hands dirty at the Mid-Ohio Farm at NBC4.

Usually the farm has a volunteer cutoff age of 16, but on Tuesday, we welcomed younger children into the community garden. The kids came in from a neighborhood near NBC4, and their families help harvest our produce.

Tuesday’s lesson for the young gardeners: pollination. It was the perfect opportunity for an environmental lesson.

“With school starting next week we thought we’d give the kids a little head start and pollinate their minds with a love for nature,” said farm manager Allison Davis.

The kids were taught what pollinators are, what they do to help grow food, and how to appreciate and encourage the ones in our environment.
