BOSTON, MA (WCMH) — There’s a consistent link between migraines and major heart disease in women, according to a new study.
According to CNN, 115,000 women between the ages of 25 and 42 were tracked in a Harvard study, spanning more than 20 years.
Research showed that of the 15 percent of the women who suffered from migraines when the study began, 50 percent of those were at greater risk of major heart disease and 39 percent were more likely to have a heart attack.
The study also found the women were 62 percent more likely to suffer a stroke and 73 percent more likes to have other heart issues or need an angioplasty.
There was also a 37 percent greater risk of dying from heart disease linked to those with migraines.
The study did take in other risk factors and smoking into consideration, but experts advised women with migraines to be aware of the heightened risk.What others are clicking on:
