COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–We have made it through the first week of February with barely 6 inches of snow in Columbus. Last February had bitter chill; the previous winter was exceptionally cold and snowy, too.

How about six years ago today? That was the commencement of “Snowmageddon” (Feb. 5-6, 2010), a storm that brought us upwards of a foot of snow, with strong winds, dumping dumped 2 to 3 feet to our east across the mid-Atlantic region.  Transportation was shut down in some areas for days, and schools and businesses were closed.

More interestingly, this was the first of three major winter storms to hammer Ohio in the course of 10 days, depositing more than 2 feet of snow on the region and forcing many school districts to exceed the allotted number of snow days by a significant margin by the end the month.

February 2010, which brought Columbus a record 30.1 inches of snow, was also famous for “Snowpocalypse” on Feb. 9-10, 2010, that brought another massive snowstorm to the upper Ohio Valley eastward to the Atlantic coast.
