COLUMBUS (WCMH)– The two accused in the double fatal shooting deaths of two men appeared in court today. One of the victim’s mothers and a friend are speaking out today.

Police say Jeffries and Shamis met 20-year-old Gary Ashton Francis and 21-year-old James Earl Miller Jr. behind the Enterprise Rent-A-Car store for a drug deal on Tuesday.

Mia Shamis, 19, had bond set at $1 million, while Connor Jeffries was handed a bond of $1.2 million.

That’s when police say Jeffries pulled out a handgun and shot Francis and Miller while they were seated inside their car. Shamis is accused of driving away, fleeing the scene with Jeffries.

Miller’s mother Tisha Miller spoke after the arraignment this morning.

“It’s heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking. I don’t know how I’m going to move on,” she says. “I don’t care what my child was doing. I don’t care what he was doing, nobody had no right to take his life.”

Miller’s mother tells us her son has a 3-week old baby who will now grow up without a father.

People who knew the four individuals involved say they all knew each other and went to school together.

It was a shock for the community, including the victim’s friend, 17-year-old Michael Taylor.

Taylor says he was close with Francis, better known as “Ashton”.

“Ashton was as great person, someone you would always want to be around,” says Taylor.

He says Francis was a kind person who just wanted to make music.

“He did not deserve that at all. Ashton was not that type of person or anything. He didn’t roll like that or nothing,” says Taylor.

He says he talked to Francis the night before he died, shocked to hear about the news of his death the next day.

He says the community is still devastated.

“We moved out of the hood to get away from that kind of stuff, so we could have better lives,” says Taylor. “People are just easily influenced and brought it to the suburbs.”

Jeffries and Shamis will be in court again on April 15th.
