CHASKA, MN (KARE) — Most people have their thing–the thing they’re known for. Mike Staudt’s thing is a little brighter than most.

“It’s really become a big hobby of his,” says his wife, Kelly.

A hobby that takes hundreds of hours to hang and computerize more than 10,000 Christmas lights. And this year, the lights are purple…in honor of Prince.

“The kids love it,” Mike says.

So do random people who line up in their vehicles outside of the Staudt home in Chaska, Minnesota and change the radio frequency to the one posted and listen to music synchronized to the lights.

But it’s more than just a holiday display–the Staudts are raising money for the Ronald McDonald House after their youngest son Caleb had open heart surgery in march.

“They helped us get through what was a really challenging time for our family,” Mike says.
