CHESTERFIELD, MI (WCMH) — The proud mother of a nine-year-old boy with cerebral palsy shared a video of her son as tried as hard as he could to stand for the national anthem.
Rebecca Wilson told WTVT that while her son was watching a recorded baseball game on TV. When the national anthem started to play, he made every effort to stand up.
“He always takes off his hat,” Rebecca Wilson told WTVT, “but until yesterday I never really saw him try to stand. He just knew that is what we do to show respect to our country and everyone who fights so hard for us. He is truly just an amazing kid just doing what he loves,” she said.
Cerebral palsy is a permanent movement disorder that appears in early childhood. Symptoms can include weak and stiff muscles, tremors and problems seeing, hearing, swallowing and speaking.
Wilson captioned her video “Even my 9 year old with CP (who can’t walk) knows you’re supposed to stand up during the national anthem…He loves it!”
Wilson told NBC4 that her son is unable to stand up unassisted, but hearing the national anthem on TV motivated him to do just that.
