WEST HAVEN, CT (WCMH) – A day care in Connecticut is shut down after police found more than a million dollars worth of marijuana growing in the backyard.
Police in West Haven say they found some 600 plants growing at the home day care. Some of the plants were 10 feet tall.
Neighbors say the couple who ran the day care in the home were quiet and kept to themselves, but they had noticed some suspicious activity.
“I saw them building like something in the back, in the yard, for months,” Frankie Torres told WTIC-TV. “So it’s kind of like a fort back there. I just thought it was a regular fence.”
“I should have smelled that. That’s crazy. I didn’t expect that,” said neighbor Robson Antoine. “And they have a daycare? Not good.”
WTIC-TV obtained state records showing the couple ran a day care for six children at the home since 1995. The couple has not been arrested, but whoever was growing the plants faces several felony charges including rick of injury to a minor and operating a drug factory.
