COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say a motorcyclist who was trying to pass between two cars on the dotted line was killed in a crash late Wednesday night.
It happened shortly after 11pm on Interstate 70 east near the Miller/Kelton exit.
According to police, a Chevrolet Malibu was in the third lane from the right and another car was in the fourth lane. A motorcycle then sped between the cars, passing them.
As a second motorcycle attempted to go between the cars, police say the 25-year-old John Mathews clipped the left rear of the Malibu. Mathews was ejected from his motorcycle and tumbled several hundred feet down the freeway before coming to rest next to the median wall.
Mathews was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe speed was a factor in the crash. Police received several calls regarding the motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed just before the crash.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story.
