GALVESTON, TX (WCMH) — Many people in the community are supporting the restaurant owner after someone smeared the front of his business with bacon fat and left strips of bacon on his doorsteps.

“We’re a restaurant. We’re not political,” Asad Khan, who owns ZaZa Bar and Bites told KPRC.

Khan said someone specifically targeted him with the bacon because he follows Islam’s stance against pork.

“You have a right to an opinion, I’m OK with that, but the opinion, when it becomes somewhat of an action, that’s when I’m concerned,” said Khan.

Police are investigating the incidents but some are calling the bacon vandalism a hate crime.

“We will not allow this to stand in this community. This will not happen. We need to come out to let him know we have his back,” diner MJ Osgood told KPRC.
