CHARLESTON, WV (WCMH) — An Amber Alert has been issued in West Virginia for a missing 13-year-old teen and her two-week-old baby.
The children were last seen at a guardian’s home in Edwardsville, Illinois, but police believe they may now be in West Virginia.
THE MISSING:
Katherine Derleth, 13, is 4’8″ and weighs about 95 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes and three birthmarks above her right knee.

Her son, Christopher Ray Derleth, is an 18-day-old baby who is about 21 inches long and weights a little over 9 pounds. He has brown hair and dark eyes.

THE SUSPECT:
Investigators believe the children were likely taken Christopher Derleth, 39, who is the teen’s stepfather. He is 6’1″ and weighs 160 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

The West Virginia Emergency Management Agency says the teen and her baby were abducted sometime Sunday morning. They may be traveling in a green 1997 Mercury Villager minivan with the Illinois registration E833210.
The van was last seen traveling on Interstate 77 South near mile marker 94 in West Virginia. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Katherine and her son Christopher, please contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 618-692-4433 or call 911.
According to various media outlets, Derleth has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and child abduction. A nationwide warrant has been issued for his arrest.
