WASHINGTON (WCMH) — The United States Navy has released video showing just how close an aircraft came crashing on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

The video from the U.S.S Dwight D. Eisenhower shows the E2-C Hawkeye aircraft approaching to land in March, but then it plunges off the ship when a landing cable snapped.

For a moment it appears the plane has crashed, but the “screwtops” pilots persevered and saved the day.

The Navy awarded “Armed Forces Air Medals” to the three pilots.

The aircrew was fine, but six sailors were hurt including some that were seriously injured.

Three sailors were disciplined for improperly troubleshooting a coding problem with the cable.
