COLUMBUS (WCMH) — “It could be a very, very close election in Ohio.” That’s what Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted had to say on the eve of Election Day.

Despite being key in deciding the presidential election, he said he didn’t expect turnout to be as big as in recent years.

10,000 more Ohioans voted early this year compared to the election in 2012. 1.79 million voted early, compared to 1.78 million in 2012. 83,000 early votes were cast in Franklin County alone.

“Even though early voting was up it wasn’t up as much as I would have projected it to be,” Secretary Husted said.

He said Monday night that Ohio was ready for Election Day.

“We have fulfilled the goal of making Ohio a place where it’s easy to vote and hard to cheat,” said Secretary Husted.

He said he doesn’t expect any trouble at the polls, saying every vulnerability has been accounted for and fixed to minimize any threats.

“Our system of elections are safer more secure have greater integrity then at any time in our state’s history.”

With Ohio as crucial as ever to the presidential race, every vote cast matters.

“I’ve looked at the polls, you’ve all looked at the polls, this could be a very, very close election in Ohio.”
