MANSFIELD, OH (WCMH) – The front yard of 284 Spring Street in Mansfield is unkempt, with overgrown vegetation and weeds-signs of a house vacant for nearly a year.
Tuesday, the Richland County Prosecutor announced that DNA analysis had been used to identify remains of the woman who lived at 284 Spring Street. Patsy Hudson, 62, was last seen in July 2015. Her family reported her missing just before Christmas.
Her next-door neighbors, Walter Renz and Linda Buckner, are now in the Richland County Jail, facing felony charges in connection with Hudson’s death.
Bambi Couch Page, the Richland County Prosecutor, said the county’s forensic lab had used some of the bones found in several locations around the county and things found inside Hudson’s house to identify the remains.
The man who lives on the other side of Hudson’s house said he feels differently about his neighborhood after what happened to his neighbor.
“You always think it’s somebody else’s neighborhood,” Mark Clever said. “Well, this is hitting me right next door.”
Months after Hudson’s disappearance, Renz and Buckner are being indicted on multiple felony charges. Renz faces 12 charges, including murder and aggravated murder. Buckner faces 10 charges, ranging from aggravated robbery to abuse of a corpse.
Couch Page said Hudson’s body was dismembered and has only been partially recovered. In light of the crime, she urged caution.
“People have a tendency, when they’re elderly and alone, to develop trusting relationships with individuals that they probably shouldn’t trust and that’s something that everybody has to be mindful of,” Couch Page said.
Clever said he hopes justice is served.
“If they did it, they need to never come out,” Clever said. “They need to spend, in prison, the rest of their lives or even get the death penalty for what they did to her. I mean, they didn’t need to cut her up.”What others are clicking on:
