MEDITERRANEAN SEA (WCMH) – A baby boy born on a Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) migrant and refugee rescue boat is bringing new attention to the refugee crisis.
According to the charity, his mother Faith was already having contractions when she left war-torn Libya. She was afraid she would have to give birth on a rubber boat.
Jonquil Nicholl, a midwife with MSF said it was a “very normal birth in dangerously abnormal conditions.”

The newborn’s birth came after the Italian Coast Guard announced that about 2,300 migrants were rescued from the sea in 18 missions on Sunday. Last month, newborn twins were rescued while more than 6,000 refugees attempted the dangerous task of crossing the Mediterranean.
As many as 3,165 people who have attempted the journey have died at sea, and the International Organization of Migration predicts that the number of deaths this year will surpass last year’s total, which was 3,771.What others are clicking on:
