PORTLAND, OR (KOIN) – Nora, a 10-month-old polar bear from the Columbus Zoo, has arrived at the Oregon Zoo.
Nora was born at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in November 2015 and was raised by zookeepers after her mother stopped providing care.
She will join the Oregon Zoo’s polar bear exhibit after spending 30 days in quarantine. Zoo visitors will see Nora along with 31-year-old Tasul in mid-October. Tasul’s brother, Conrad, was euthanized in July after a tumor was found on his liver.
Keepers hope Tasul and Nora will become friends and the older bear will mentor Nora as she grows up.
“They haven’t met yet, but Tasul knows she’s here,” said Amy Cutting, who oversees the zoo’s marine life area. “She’s very curious, and our keepers are giving her some extra TLC in addition to caring for Nora.”
