NEW YORK (AP/WCMH) – Authorities say two New York City police sergeants have been shot in a gun battle with a robbery suspect.
The New York Police Department’s top spokesman says the robbery suspect was killed in the exchange of gunfire Friday in the Bronx. Spokesman Stephen Davis says both sergeants have been hospitalized and one of them is seriously injured.
One of those officers has died, NBC New York reports. The condition of the other sergeant is unknown.
Davis says the suspect’s car was pulled over near a ballfield by police who had received a description of someone who had just committed a home invasion. He says the suspect fired on the sergeants who were responding.
